UC Guidance and Counseling Kicks Off #BERDEBeginnings for Students

To warmly welcome students and help them start university life on the right track, the Guidance and Counseling Office launched Project #BERDEBeginnings. Held from January 4 to 12, 2024, the initiative introduced eight dynamic activities designed to familiarize new UC students with the campus, nurture connections, promote academic success, and enhance their overall experience.

One standout activity saw students donning green outfits, crafting witty captions, and sharing their creative photos on Facebook. This fun and interactive task sparked creativity, developed a sense of community, and set an optimistic tone for the semester ahead.

Project #BERDEBeginnings was a comprehensive effort to support and guide new UC students as they begin their academic journey. The program addressed their diverse needs, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and ready to tackle university life. It introduced students to the university by helping them understand its structure, culture, and available resources. From navigating campus facilities to learning about academic programs, #BERDEBeginnings equipped students with the tools they need to thrive. By laying this strong foundation, #BERDEBeginnings ensured that students were well-prepared to embrace the opportunities and challenges of university life with confidence. It provided them not only with practical knowledge and skills but also with a sense of purpose and direction, empowering them to take ownership of their academic journey and make the most of their time at UC.

The program also raised awareness about various student services, including academic support, mental health resources, extracurricular activities, and career development opportunities, all of which contributed to a fulfilling university experience. It aims to create a sense of community and belonging. Through activities and events that encouraged interaction and collaboration, students form meaningful relationships with their peers and faculty and staff members. This sense of connection was crucial for emotional well-being and academic success. The program promotes personal and academic growth by offering workshops, seminars, and mentorship opportunities that motivated students to set goals, build skills, and maintain a positive mindset. The focus was not just on academics but on nurturing well-rounded development.

Project #BERDEBeginnings reflected UC’s commitment to creating a supportive and vibrant learning environment. By prioritizing student well-being and fostering a sense of belonging, the Guidance and Counseling Office ensured that every student began their university journey on a positive and empowering note.
