PROJECT R.E.A.D and Peers for the Environment: Bridging Mind and Natures “Empowering Literacy and Environmental Stewardship among Students”

On March 21, 2025, the UC Peer Facilitators, led by Vice President for External Nickolle Cordero, launched Project R.E.A.D. and Peers for the Environment at Camp 7 Elementary School. The initiative, themed “Bridging Mind and Nature: Empowering Literacy and Environmental Stewardship among Students,” was made possible by the invaluable support of UCPF Adviser Stephanie Joy K. Pogongan, the representative of the Guidance and Counseling Office (GCO), and the dedicated assistance of Ma’am Gladys R. Corpuz, Head of UC Center for Social Responsibility (CSR). Collaborative efforts and a shared vision for community development ensured the event’s success. Support was also provided by the Joint Task Unit (JTU) Baguio, which contributed manpower.

The day was filled with meaningful activities that combined education and environmental awareness. Peer Facilitators led engaging storytelling sessions that sparked the children’s imagination using 3D storybooks, big storybooks, and flashcards, fostering a love for reading and learning. Fun games added excitement and provided opportunities for the kids to participate, learn, and bond with their peers.

In line with the project’s environmental advocacy, a Clean-Up Drive was conducted on the school grounds. The UCPF, along with the JTU, CSR, and GCO, worked collaboratively to beautify the surroundings, instilling the value of cleanliness and care for the environment.

Project R.E.A.D. and Peers for the Environment exemplifies how impactful small-scale initiatives can inspire positive change within communities. By integrating literacy promotion with environmental action, the UC Peer Facilitators are paving the way for holistic youth development and social responsibility. The success of Project R.E.A.D. and Peers for the Environment depended on the dedication and enthusiasm of the partners, facilitators, and the school community. It stands as a testament to the power of collective effort in building a more literate and environmentally conscious future.
