UC Peer Facilitators Launch “Project CHAMPION” Peer Tutoring Program for 2nd Trimester

Baguio City, Philippines – The University of the Cordilleras (UC) Peer Facilitators marked the official launch of “Project CHAMPION: Peer Tutoring Program” for the second trimester of the academic year 2024-2025 with an orientation session held on January 24th at the Psychological Testing Unit (PTU), Room G303. The session, led by Head Peer Tutor Fatma P. Cawed, gathered peer tutors, facilitators, and their adviser, Ma’am Stephanie Joy K. Pogongan, to lay the foundation for an initiative aimed at fostering academic excellence and student support.

Project CHAMPION is designed to bridge academic gaps by empowering students to assist their peers in navigating their coursework with confidence. More than just a tutoring initiative, the program emphasizes mentorship, professionalism, and ethical responsibility, reinforcing the university’s commitment to collaborative learning. Tutors engaged in discussions on their roles, expectations, and the vital importance of fostering supportive relationships within the academic community.

Beyond academic reinforcement, Project CHAMPION cultivates self-reliance and critical thinking among students, ensuring they develop the skills needed for independent learning. It also serves as a platform for networking and leadership development, providing tutors with valuable experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Although some tutors may have undergone similar orientations in the past, each session serves as a crucial reminder of their responsibilities, reinforcing the program’s mission and the collective effort required to uphold UC’s standard of academic excellence.
